The Royal Surrey County Hospital Maternity Services are renowned for their high standards of clinical and midwifery care. Approximately 3500 women and their families are cared for every year by the team of midwives, obstetricians and maternity support workers.
Following the HealthCare Commission Maternity Audit (February 2008) the Royal Surrey County Hospital Maternity Unit was found to be excellent in women-focused care and good in clinical focus.
Clinical Excellence was also demonstrated when the Maternity Unit was accredited with the ‘Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts’ CNST Level 3, the highest level of Risk Management Standards for NHS Trusts.
This signifies that women are cared for and give birth in a safe environment which is achieved by rigorous risk management procedures and evidence of robust research based policies and protocols. http://www.nhsla.com/Claims/Schemes/CNST/
In 1998 the Maternity Unit achieved the globally recognised ‘Baby Friendly Award’ for Breastfeeding Support from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF, now known as United Nations Children’s Fund). Since this award was achieved regular reassessments of the care and information we provide have been made. We continue to hold this prestigious award.
