Peter was appointed Chair the Board of Directors and Council of Governors on 1st December 2010. He joined us following a distinguished career in the Royal Navy, which he ended as a Vice Admiral. Peter now sits on a number of Boards in the private sector as well as the governing bodies of two schools. He has lived in Guildford for 25 years.
Nick joined the Royal Surrey in January 2006 from King's College Hospital NHS Trust where he was Director of Strategic Development. He has also worked as a strategy consultant for McKinsey & Company and is a former First Secretary at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
Christopher joined the Royal Surrey in 2005 as a Consultant gastroenterologist and physician and was appointed Medical Director in 2007. He was previously a Consultant at St George's Hospital and Queen Mary's Roehampton, with honorary contracts at the Liver Unit, Kings College Hospital and the Royal Marsden. He has extensive management experience as Clinical Director at both Queen Mary's Roehampton and St George's. Christopher's main clinical interests are liver disease and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
Paul joined the Royal Surrey in September 2003 and is a qualified Chartered Accountant. Before taking up his current post he was Chief Executive of Jarvis Systems & Technologies and Chief Financial Officer for NatWest's Retail & Commercial Businesses. Paul has also worked as the Finance Director of the UK Business of Digital Equipment & Xerox. He is currently non-executive director of W&J Linney Limited and CAF Bank.
Alf joined the Royal Surrey in October 2012 as our operational lead for Human Resources and Corporate Development, with a focus on Transformation. The portfolio of services he is responsible for include Human Resources, Patients 1st, Volunteer Services, Non Clinical Risk and Company Secretary.
With significant transformation, human resources and NHS experience, Alf’s recent roles as the Director of Transformation at Serco Marine and as a Non Executive Director at Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospital will enable him to make a valuable contribution to the Trust.
Louise joined the Royal Surrey Board of Directors in November 2011. Louise has worked at the Royal Surrey for 14 years, having previously worked in the London teaching hospitals, and her most recent role at the Trust was Acting Head of Nursing and Associate Head of Nursing.
John was appointed on 1st October 2008. He is a Chartered Surveyor and is the former MD of Bass Leisure Retail. He has previously held senior management positions with McDonalds Restaurants, Imperial Group and Forte, and Non-executive directorships at Fitness First PLC and SFI plc. He now runs a licensed retailing consultancy business, and sits as a magistrate on the North East Hampshire bench.
Over a period of 30 years in business, Gary Crouch held positions in Industrial Relations, HR and International Management Development. He was a Board Director of Lever Brothers, Walls Ice Cream, Birds Eye, and Elida Faberge. After retiring in 2008 as HR Director of Unilever UK, he served with the Judicial Appointments Commission as Panel Chair; and spent two years as a Visiting Fellow of Surrey University. He is currently Chairman of Surrey Police Authority Standards Committee; a Lay Chair with the Kent Surrey and Sussex Post-Graduate Deanery, and a Director of Unilever Pensions Trust Ltd (i.e. a Pensions Trustee). Apart from a 3 year period in Brussels, he has lived in various parts of Surrey continuously since 1982
Tony Harris has extensive business experience leading large organisations and has held a number of senior roles including Chief Executive of ADT Fire & Security plc, Managing Director of NTL Business Inc and President, Business Services at BT plc. Before joining BT, Tony was an Executive Board Member for 11 years at DHL Worldwide Express.
Tony has served as a Non-Executive Director of Telspec plc, Norbain Group and the Audit Commission and is currently a Senior Adviser to a private Investment Company as well as a Non-Executive Director of DEX Corporation, Empire World Trade Ltd and WRFC Trading Ltd.
Jacqueline was previously a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee on the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust Board between 1998 and 2004. Jacqui is currently a freelance management consultant specialising in healthcare and higher education. She has also previously worked with KPMG Peat Marwick. Jacqui is also Deputy Chair of the Board of the University of Creative Arts and on the Audit Committee of the British Academy.
Debbie Glenn was appointed on 3rd March 2011. Debbie has held a variety of leadership roles, including Primary Care Trust (PCT) Chief Executive (2002 – 2006) during her 25 year career in the NHS/social care field. Debbie has considerable experience in leading organisations through change, working with GPs and engaging stakeholders.
Debbie is currently working as a freelance management consultant/interim manager. Her work has included advising the Department of Health (DH) MRSA team, reviewing multimillion pound NHS projects (as an OGC reviewer for DH & HM Treasury),developing PCT strategic commissioning plans and working with hospitals and PCTs to improve performance in key service areas. Debbie is also a Trustee of a UK wide Learning Disabilities Charity (Prospects).
