Infection Control

Infection Control

Everyone at the Royal Surrey is committed to reducing our rates of infection and tackling infection is a top priority.  We have made huge progress in the past few years and have seen significant reductions in our rates of both MRSA and C difficile

The risk of getting an infection whilst in hospital is very low, but this does not mean there is room for complacency. Our Director of Infection Prevention and Control is Medical Director Dr Christopher Tibbs and he is supported by our Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control and Head of Nursing Ellen Bull.  We have a dedicated infection control team of qualified nurses and an Infection Control doctor/microbiologist and all staff are highly trained in how to prevent and manage infections.

Tackling infection now forms part of all job descriptions and appraisals and all staff have their part to play to helping us to reduce our rates of infection.

Regular reports are provided to the Trust board of directors and all cases of MRSA bacteraemias and C difficile are investigated to ensure that the cause of the infection is known and, when appropriate, lessons are learnt.
