Adult Hearing Aid Maintenance Sessions (Walk-in Repairs)

Daily walk-in sessions are available if your hearing aid was issued by the Royal Surry County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  During the sessions you will be seen on a “first-come first-served” basis and they are run during the following times: 

Monday: 1.00 - 2.30 pm
Tuesday: 9.00 - 10.30am
Wednesday: 9.00 - 10.30am
Thursday: 1.00 - 2.30pm
Friday: 9.00 - 10.30am  

Please note: Afternoons can be very busy clinics so may result in longer waiting times.

During the Monday, Wednesday and Thursday walk in sessions, there are also volunteers available who can re-tube your hearing aid.

During the Walk-in session we can:

-       Retube your hearing aid – this needs to be done every 6 months

-       Replace your open fitting tube and dome – this needs to be done every 3 months

-       Make slight adjustments to the sound of your hearing aid

-       Make a new mould if appropriate

-       Replace a faulty aid

-       Instruct on battery insertion, earmould insertion and use of the controls

-       Give advice on assistive listening devices and communication strategies

-       Inform you on support groups and other related services

If you have great difficulties with your hearing aid we might need to book you a review appointment.

If your hearing aid is faulty or needs retubing, you can drop it off at the main Audiology reception between the hours of 9.00am and 4.30pm.  An Audiologist will look at it and it will be ready for collection within 1-3 working days.

Hearing aid batteries can be picked up from the Audiology reception between the hours of 9.00am and 4.30pm. You will be asked to show your brown NHS "Hearing Aid and Battery Issuing Record Book". 

Out of these hours batteries can be collected from the main hospital reception. 

Batteries can also be requested via post, please include a self addressed envelope with a large 1^st class stamp for postage.

Aid Whistling: 

• Check mould is inserted correctly
• Have ears checked for wax
• Check mould is not loose
• Check tubing is not hard
• If aid has a volume control, check not too high

Aid Stops Working: 

• Change the battery
• Check the mould is not blocked with wax.
• Check the tubing is not kinked, blocked with condensation/water or twisted
• Check hearing aid is not on T (loop) position.

If you hold the hearing aid in the palm of your hand and close it, it should “whistle” when switched on the program for every day use.

If further problems exist after applying the troubleshooting then please attend a walk-in session.

Basic mould hygiene

Daily: wipe the earmould with a damp flannel or wet-wipe when removed from ear/s.  

Weekly: detach the mould from the aid and wash in warm soapy water. (Make sure that there is no water in the tubing before connecting the mould to the hearing aid.) 

It is important that the mould is kept clean to enable the best quality of sound from the aid.
